USFL 2022 – Week 9 Games – Birmingham, Alabama
Written by Greg Evers - June 2022
One of the advantages of being here in the US is that when it's Friday here in the US, it's Saturday in Australia, which means that I technically don't have to "work". This week I decided that because I'ld been going pretty hard with camps, USFL games, working, that I needed to take a day where I didn't think about anything American Football or work related. As I was interested in seeing the new Jurassic Park movie that had been released that week, I decided that I was going to have an "easy" day and just spend it at the movies. I ended up watching 2 different movies, having some food between them, incidently at a restaurant chain that my wife and I use to go to for "dates" when we were at university before we got married, so that was an interesting side note. It felt so good to just take that time to "rest" from everything else that I had been doing and in essence "recharge" the batteries before the next stage of my trip.
This USFL games for this weekend were back at the original stadium (Protective Stadium). Through the generosity of the people that I've had the privilege of being the press box with, they were again able to get me passes to the press box so that I could again sit up there and watch and learn during the game. I walked in to the press box and was sitting down watching the teams and officals go through their warmup routines and an NFL representative walked in to the room. We went through some basic introductions and he's then asked if I went to the camp in El Paso, which of course I did, and his response was that he remembered me from that camp. I didn't have anything to do with this representative at the camp, but he still recognised me from the camp. I am constantly amazed at how many people are recognising and remembering me from various camps, even if I don't interact with them directly, so that was definitely another "mind blown" event.
